From farmhouses to factories

In the last century it was the path of many a country lad and lass to go from farm huts to factories in search of work. We will now retrace their footsteps by first visiting a present-day factory and then experiencing the rural atmosphere of bygone times.

First, we will enjoy a hearty lunch at a local cafe Vilpun Vintti, where you can also buy handicrafts. From there, our journey continues towards Mänttä, renowned for its industry and arts.

The former head office of the forest company G.A. Serlachius now houses the G.A. Serlachius Museum which recounts tales of the life in the paper town in the old days. Our guide will talk about how people worked, what they did for fun and introduce us into the domain of the Serlachius family.

We will leave the roar of the machines and head for the countryside, where most of the factory workers have their roots. There the warm farmhouse of the Peltola Organic Farmstead awaits us. In the atmospheric living room, we will enjoy a tasty supper prepared by our hostess Marja. The evening will continue with a sing-song. A good night´s sleep is guaranteed in the beautiful and cosy converted granaries.
